India v. Pakistan
Oh no they di’int!
I have a feeling that India is going to bomb the crap out of Pakistan, if Pakistan doesn’t feel it coming and bomb the daylights out of India first.
More Hope and Change
The One disagrees with Hillary on foreign policy, so he makes her the foreign policy spokesperson for the whole country. (Rumors are now flying that Bill will be appointed as the replacement for her Senate seat.)
He disagrees with Bush on how the war should be fought, so he keeps Bush’s Secretary of Defense as his own. (Can you spell S-C-A-P-E-G-O-A-T? The first attack will cause Obama to blame it on the “bad feelings” created by the Bush administration, and he will announce that he has “accepted Secretary Gates’ resignation”, rather than admitting any shortcoming of his own.)
He has reversed himself on virtually EVERY policy decision and campaign promise made since he started campaigning almost two years ago.
I gotta say, from the 48 to the 52: You broke it. You bought it.
I’ll be over here, practicing how to say “I told you so” in as many languages as possible.

Giving thanks this year
I have a lot to be thankful for this year, and a lot to be somewhat regretful about, as well.
Business is doing better than I should have hoped for, even with the current (finger scarequotes) financial crisis (close scarequotes). No real family crisis this year, unto the third generation. The blog is doing well, averaging more visitors per day than I used to get per month back when I started, not to mention some superlative co-bloggers.
As of next Monday, our little business will pass its 2nd birthday, and we haven’t bounced any checks yet. (Knock on wood.)
In a more general sense, I am thankful - and inexpressibly grateful - that our nation has not suffered a terrorist attack in 2,633 days, and the thanks for that go to our inestimable military, and their Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush.
What about you folks?

Schedule for upcoming results
There are a few recounts going on across the US - California’s 4th, Ohio’s 15th and Virginia’s 5th House districts, and Minnesota’s Senate race.
I just wanted to bring you all up to date as to the runoff schedule for the upcoming days.
Tuesday will be the runoff election in Georgia, and a week from Saturday (the 6th) is the runoff for Louisiana’s 4th House seat.
December 2nd is also the deadline to report all results from the canvassing here in California, which should resolve the 4th district; however, McClintock is still up by 622, a number which has not changed in a week.
Court cases regarding the eligibility of certain provisional ballots in Ohio’s 15th House district are currently under appeal. I’m wondering what the problem is. There should be only two questions to be asked before allowing provisional votes to be counted: “Is the (provisional) voter eligible to cast a vote in this election?” and “Is this the only ballot cast by that particular (provisional) voter?” If both answers are “Yes”, then the vote counts. If either or both are “No”, then it doesn’t, it’s as simple as that. The GOP incumbent is still up by 149, pending those provisional votes.
The State of Virginia has certified the 745-margin of victory of Democratic challenger Tom Perriello in Virginia’s 5th House seat, but incumbent Republican Virgil Goode has demanded a recount.
Our count for the Senate stands at 46D-40R-2I, with Minnesota and Georgia still outstanding. The House stands at 256D-175R, with California’s 4th, Louisiana’s 4th, Ohio’s 15th and Virginia’s 5th still to be determined. (UPDATE 11-26: The Board has denied Al Franken’s appeal that the denial of roughly 12,000 absentee ballots be reconsidered. That rules out a potential new source of votes for both candidates. Those absentee votes were denied for a variety of reasons, including administrative, but they will not be counted, which means - with about 80% of all votes recounted - that Franken is HIGHLY unlikely to close the gap.)
So anyhow, if the Republicans win both of the remaining Senate seats (the Coleman/Franken recount and the runoff election next Tuesday), John Cross wins. If the parties split the races, then oneisnotprime wins. If the Dems manage to win two, Justin wins.
Of the four remaining House races, it looks like the Dems have won Virginia, pending a recount. That means that the Republicans must win all of the remaining races, or INCITEMarsh wins. If they do win both of the pending races (California and Ohio), AND the runoff on the 6th, John Cross wins.
Down to the wire, folks.

Hung like a mule
That’s gotta be it.
If you haven’t been under a rock for the last two decades, you’ll recognize the name of David Spade. He played the foil in several reasonably funny movies - the suck-up assistant in “Coneheads”, the suck-up WASP in “PCU”, the straight man to Chris Farley’s tour de farce performance in “Tommy Boy” - failed miserably as the “hero” in “Joe Dirt” and “Dickie Roberts”, and went on to ruin several promising TV series, including Saturday Night Live.
His voice is “Fran Drescher-esque” in its annoyance level and his sense of humor is simple condescension-with-a-laugh-track.
But you cannot deny that the man gets some of the hottest women in Hollyweird:
- Jennifer Rubin
- Bobbie Phillips
- Kristi Swanson
- Erin Smith
- Lara Flynn Boyle
- Stacey Hayes
- Krista Allen
- Caprice Bourret
- Julie Bowen
- Teri Hatcher
- Brittany Daniel
- Sara Foster
- Heather Locklear
- Carmen Electra
- Nicki Whelan
- Pamela Anderson
- Jillian Grace
- and now, Nicolette Sheridan!
At least five on that list have appeared in Playboy, and the rest are very pretty young ladies, way above his class. Either the dude can lick his own eyebrows or he’s occasionally mistaken for a tripod.
Coleman still up by 167
With about 2/3 of the votes recounted, Coleman’s total is down 669 votes, while Franken’s is down 621 votes. That drops the incumbent’s lead from 215 to 167, but that is out of almost 3/4 of the total number of precincts.
It doesn’t look good for Al “Laugh, dammit!” Franken, but that means that it looks good for the country as a whole.
No other changes in any of our other races of interest.
Drywalling
Oh geez… is this over yet?
After spending an entire weekend drywalling, spackling, sanding, and painting, I’m under the firm belief that drywallers earn every penny they make. In fact, if I ever need to do this again, I’ll pay a professional a whole lot and give them a huge tip. I’m never doing that crap again.
I think I’m going to call in sick to work. That was freakin’ tedious.

Happy Victory in Iraq Day!
VE Day, VJ day, and, now, 11-22-2008, VI day!
We won.
Suck THIS, Andy Sullivan. And BHO....you ain’t POTUS yet. And all you whacko Code-Pink post nationalists.....America WON, Bush was RIGHT, and the boys and girls did their jobs.
Take it to the bank.
What should define the new Republican Party?
This seems to be the new conversational topic du temps, so let’s get a pulse.
Not which side of the issue at first, but let’s see if we can’t put together the topics on which we would prefer our government to focus.
- War on
TerrorIslamofascists - Taxes
- Abortion
- Same-Gender Marriage (It isn’t “same sex”, precisely because the sex isn’t the same.)
- Abolition of Governmental Regulation
- Balanced Budget
What am I forgetting?
More Hope that things will Change
During the primaries, Obama and Hillary did not disagree on domestic issues.
They did not really disagree with internal party policy ("platform") issues.
Their only real difference was in foreign policy. On the Iraq War in particular (and the Global War on Terror in general).
So who does Obama choose as his main spokesperson regarding foreign policy?
Gosh, what’s next? Supreme Court Justice Bill Clinton?
Hey, don’t scoff. The man who could not pass a Background Investigation to get a security clearance now has the very highest clearance of all. He very well could nominate a man who had lost his right to argue cases in front of the highest court (as a part of a criminal plea bargain) in the land to decide cases on that very court. You know that Stevens and Ginsberg will be retiring within the next year or three.

One Ball Wonder
Wow… it’s true!
And we find another reason as to why Hitler was a so mad.
AN extraordinary account from a German army medic has finally confirmed what the world long suspected: Hitler only had one ball.
War veteran Johan Jambor made the revelation to a priest in the 1960s, who wrote it down.
The priest’s document has now come to light – 23 years after Johan’s death.
Sometimes it takes years for things to make so much sense.
If he can’t win it, he’ll STEAL it.
The Minnesota Secretary of State has certified Norm Coleman the winner in the Senate race.
Al Franken, through statistical miracles, has managed to whittle the lead from 745 to 215 votes.
Now that he has lost, he must file suit to have 216 votes disqualified or disallowed.
Guess “voter intent” isn’t all that important any more, eh?

Convicted felon loses - finally
Alaska’s vote for the Senate seat has been counted, and Democrat Mark Begich has narrowly edged out convicted felon Ted Stevens.
The final vote count, as certified by the Secretary of State of Alaska was 146,286 (47.56 percent), to 143,912 (46.76 percent), with Begich winning by almost 2,400 votes, making him the first Alaskan Democrat to serve in the Senate since the Reagan Revolution kicked out then-Senator Mike Gravel.
As far as our contest goes, this really only changes the numbers needed.
If the Republicans win both of the remaining Senate seats, John Cross wins. If the Dems win one, then oneisnotprime wins. If the Dems manage to take both of them, then Justin wins.
Norm Coleman’s victory has been certified, with the incumbent up by 215 votes. An automatic recount is starting immediately, so we shall see. And Saxby Chambliss is leading by a few points in most polls, but the whole point of the runoff election is that more than 50% voted for someone other than Chambliss, even if he ended up with more than anyone else.
No changes in any of the four House races:
- California’s 4th still has the Republican ahead, but by only 622 votes. The delay appears to be a process called “canvassing” by the County Registrars involved. They actually have 28 days (December 2nd) to report final tallies.
- Ohio’s 15th has no change, with the Republican incumbent up by 149 votes, and recounts are ongoing.
- Virginia’s 5th also has no changes, with the Democratic challenger up by 745.
Throw in Louisiana’s runoff, and I never quite realized how weird this was going to be…
Sorry, folks…

Not for nothing, but Happy 80th Birthday to Mickey Mouse, who made his first appearance in Steamboat Willie.
He and his cohorts have brought happiness and laughter, tears and terror, hope and love to millions around the world ever since.
