BREAKING NEWS
Harriet Miers has withdrawn her nomination for the Supreme Court. Bush used an out (the fact that he would not turn over White House Counsel documentation to the Senate) to have this happen, but it is done.
Astute in a political sense, but I think that he had this out for about a week or so....it was projected from several senators on the Committee that they would be asking for these documents, and that was a pretty obvious statement to POTUS.
Now, he needs to bring in a Janice Rogers Brown, or someone of her ilk. He needs to go on the offensive, and get the ball back in his hands.
This also shows that there is still a strong CONSERVATIVE movement in these United States...apart from the religious conservatives. Harriet was a Religious Republican....and this is a shot across Bush’s bow from the conservatives that helped elect his moderate self back to the office. This is a clear message...it says that we like his War on terror, but that the moderate leaning has to stop at some point.
I’d hit Polipundit and Real Clear Politics for updates, though I’ll try to post some as updates here.
I’m going to make this sticky for a few hours....I’ll de-stick-ify it at around noon EDT

Update: This was the Krauthammer Option, as explained by the good mariner at Captain’s Quarters.
Update #2: Andrew Sullivan says, of course, that this is a bad thing, and confirms everything bad that he believes about the President.
Update #3: True conservative-intelligent-blogging superstar (and not so harsh on the eyes) Michelle Malkin has a very complete post on the subject.
