Courage is the complement of fear. He that is fearless cannot be courageous. He is also a fool.

What…another Andrew Sullivan fisking?

No....just a partial.

Take a click and read the hypocrisy!

This posting deserves to be fisked, in a way, but here’s my point, in the stead of a fisking.

Where does Sullivan live?  In Washington D.C.

Why does he use Wyoming?  Because he holds the residents there in distain for being traditional Americans, and, in my opinion, because a certain Mr. Cheney comes from Wyoming.

District of Columbia.  District.  Not a city, or a state, but a District. It is administered directly by the federal government, so of course it is going to be a complete fiasco.

However, could someone list for me the times that DC has requested statehood?  Well, they have....you can read about it here.  Note something....what party is making the most noise about DC Statehood?

The Green Party.  The leftist, socialist party.  They and Andrew Sullivan agree on this.

What a putz.  Please don’t tell me that AS is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, anymore.

There’s also a false-alternatives angle to arguments about DC statehood. At one time weren’t they voting for elected officials in a contiguous state?

But statehood is always the preferred option in arguments because you get two free guaranteed-to-vote-with-Cynthia-McKinney Senators in the deal. And you can more or less determine how people will side on the statehood question by whether they want two new Senators in the moonbat delegation.

Statehood does fit his themes, though. Those of perpetual oppression and persecution. I won’t claim he’s not a conservative (I largely don’t have to), but I will point out that these themes tend to belong to the polemical catalog of another political philosophy altogether.

Do you mean this one John?

“Thanks for your emails about the colony in the American capital. Here’s a challenge: can anyone provide me with an actual argument for the fact that the inhabitants of the capital city have no fundamental right to govern themselves (without some strangers from other states’ vetoing or amending their decisions)? Is there even the faintest justification for residents of DC paying federal taxes when they have no senators and only one Potemkin representative in the House? Wyoming has fewer inhabitants and two senators. How does this make any sense? I know the historical reasons for this carbuncle on American democracy. I also know the self-interested reasons for preventing representation (Republicans don’t want any more Democrats in the Senate). But when you see people from elsewhere simply using DC as an experiment on a “test-vote”, the sheer contempt these people have for democracy and for the residents of their own little colony is overpowering. So I repeat: can anyone defend this? Seriously? I’ll publish the best ones.”

You guys should quote AS when you post about him so I don’t run his views up by going there. If that’s legal I mean.

Its a pointless post. If Sullivan wants to amend the constitution then by all means he should support an amendment and try to get it passed. Fat chance of that happening (passage).

I agree, he uses Wyoming because of Cheney. However there are other good examples like S-Dak and Sullivan seems to have a basic problem with our form of government doesn’t he?

As for his political alignment, this was one of the points I was trying to get across to Lee the other day. I’m afraid I was a ‘miserable failure’ in the attempt. :-D

It’s almost as if AS has never bothered to read the Constitution (Article I, Section 8):

The Congress shall have Power ... To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States...

DC already has representation in the Electoral College (See Amendment 23), and there are special commissions that handle any problems that crop up. DC has its own mayor, police force, etc., etc.

If AS wants some Senators (guaranteed to vote with Cynthia McKinney), then let him move to Massachusetts. Or Wyoming…

Maybe he’s just pissed off about having Craig T. Nelson as his Chief of Police

From today’s LA Times…

“Faced with evidence that HIV infection is spreading rapidly among gay men after years of decline, top public health officials in Los Angeles County are urging the Board of Supervisors to increase regulation of gay bathhouses and sex clubs.

The 11 gay bathhouses and sex clubs in the county should be required to obtain licenses from the health department to operate, county public health chief Jonathan Fielding said in a report this week. The licenses could be revoked if the clubs allowed patrons to engage in unprotected sex.

The proposal already has drawn fire from bathhouse owners and some gay activists, who say it infringes on the privacy and civil rights of gay men. “We find this proposal to be extremely discriminatory,” said political consultant Steve Afriat, who represents the owners of nine clubs.” ...

And queers like Sullivan continue to wonder why most Americans remain leery of gay marriage. I used to buy into that whole “it will help strengthen the bonds between gay/lesbian couples” crap too.

Until the majority of gays and lesbians have the strength to disassociate themselves from these kinds of moral indecencies (including “pride” parades)...then they will never ever be taken seriously.

The fact that some queers liken the “struggle” to the Civil Rights Movement is not only laughable but also a slap in the face to all black Americans. I can’t recall ever seeing footage of contingents of Civil Rights marchers shaking their naught bits to the tunes of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Marchers running from water cannons and police dogs...yes. Dancing no on floats...no.

"But what about gay blacks?”, he asked innocently…

They’d close a restaurant that was connected with spreading disease and no one would carp about civil rights being violated. I sort of view not being dead as a civil right more worthy of protection than the civil right of random sex with HIV-positive strangers.

If someone brands me as homophobic for preferring to see gay guys sexually unsatisfied than to see them dead in macro-statistical figures, so be it.

“Until the majority of gays and lesbians have the strength to disassociate themselves from these kinds of moral indecencies (including “pride” parades)...then they will never ever be taken seriously.”

Just so. That’s my problem with it right there in a nutshell. If they want to be treated like responsible adults then fine, but let’s start right now by ACTING like responsible adults.
