Live-Blogging the Ohio Returns!
Well...here I am.....one window on the Ohio Secretary of State website, looking at results, one being used in the typing of this blog. I will post and update below, for your reading pleasure.
8:50 PM: The polls have been closed for about an hour now..they closed at 7:30 EST, and the results for the statewide items are coming in. Right now, all the issues that Michelle Malkin warned you about are being decided. Here’s what we see:

Note that turnout was expected to be around 40%, or roundabouts 2,500,000-3,000,000 voters, so we are just 3% into the count.
9:00: I’ll try to post every 5-10 minutes or so. update on the State Issues:

Ugh....need a beer.
9:10: Real quick..I voted “No” for 2,3, and 5, but “Yes” for 1 and 4....my reasons are that there is nothing wrong with the use of bonds....it is better than mandating a new tax that one cannot avoid paying. Also, paying taxes cannot get you interest. Issue 4? Well, I’m all for uniform districting, and getting the political parties out of it. Period.

9:20: In Franklin County, we are having an election for the Munincipal Clerk of Courts. One candidate, Mike Pirik, is actually under a criminal investigation for actions involving timesheets and alledged payroll fraud. He’s the Republican candidate for the position, and this came up just in the past couple months. The tally for this contest:

I’m guessing that we’re seeing Issues 2-5 fail pretty big. Even in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland, heavily Democrat), Issue 2, for example, is getting less than half the votes (Yes 31,005, or 48.63% No 32,758, or 51.37%) Issue One is still winning, though, and that looks like it’s going to go into the Yes column.

CANDIDATE PARTY VOTE PERCENTAGE
FOR THE TAX LEVY—106080 62.50
AGAINST THE TAX LEVY—63641 37.50
Issue 7 is a replacement levy for the ADAMH tax....disabled and mentally handicapped. I voted for it.
Columbus, and Franklin County, is pretty reflective of the state in general. Actually, it leans more Democratic these days. With 689 of 816 precincts reporting in, it’s almost a done deal.
9:58: I was scanning the county Issue 1 vote, and did some rough figuring. Several of the big Democratic countries, like Cuyahoga, are only 15-20% counted. Frankllin is 85% counted, and Hamilton (more Republican than Democrat) and their surrounding conservative counties are almost done being counted at this point. I’m going to say that Issue 1 is a winner at this point.

These numbers are starting to become rather firm. Polipundit’s Alexander K. McClure is not happy about the outcome in Virginia....but I think these numbers are too early to use in 2008....or even 2006.

The closest issue os Issue 1, and the spred on that is 149,131 votes. Even if 2,500,000 voters turn out (and I don’t know if we’re going to make it that high at this point), that means that the “No” people would have to win 500,000 of the next 700,000 voted in order to have a chance. That works out to be more than 71% of the remaining vote, and with a lot of the expected ‘No” votes in already-counted conservative counties, that isn’t going to happen.
So, I’m off to bed. Hope you all enjoyed the live-blogging. Comment freely. Thanks to the Ohio Secretary of State for the State numbers, and the Franklin County Board of Elections. for the local numbers.
The Next Day.....9:43 am:
Final Count for Ohio:
39.7% of the registered voters turned out for the election this year....sucks, doesn’t it? Well, it is reflective of the way this election was set up....most of the state-wide issues had little to do with Ohioans in general, and more to do with the “Boo-Hoo-Whah!” factor from 2000 and 2004. Issues 2-5 were funded by people outside the state, and mostly by Democrats trying to insure a win where they can’t find enough voters.

There you go. WELCOME TO ALL MICHELLE MALKIN READERS! Thanks for stopping by...make it a habit!!
Leave some comments about the election. At least in Ohio (in general), it looks like there is no problem with the conservative base statewide. The urban centers are waxing left, but with the percentages reflected in Issues 2-5, it appears as if Ohio retains it’s deep conservative roots.
